BETA: Using Line of Sight

This describes how to enable line of sight and define walls to restrict vision.

Configuration

Configuration is performed on the campaign settings (see bottom of settings).

  • Vision Mode

    • Fog of war only: this is the default. No line of sight is enabled and only areas outside of fog are displayed.

    • Fog combined with line of sight: areas that are fogged are never show to players. When this mode is selected the “Hide unfogged regions not in line of sight” setting will determine visibility outside of line of sight. When selected unfogged areas outside of vision are black. If not selected then the areas outside of vision appear in purple tone.

    • Line of sight only: this mode ignores fog of war and hides all areas outside of line of sight.

  • Vision Distance: determines how far characters can see.

  • Only show player their characters/companions: when selected the line of sight will only show characters and companions the they can move. When not selected the vision areas include all player’s characters and companions as well as vision of any friendly monsters/npcs.

Gamemasters can also change the open state of doors. Click doors to change the open state. Note: players cannot change the state of a door.

Creation

Walls are created in the “Build Walls and Fog Regions” menu located under the eye tool.

To create walls first create regions using the polygon or rectangle tool. Then pick a wall type under the bock icon to change the wall types.

  • Invisible walls: (light blue) these will not block line of sight and work well for open ended regions or to define fog regions where there are no walls to block vision.

  • Solid walls: (red) these are the default block vision from all directions.

  • One-way walls: (orange) these block vision from one side but not the other. The arrows indicate which direction characters can see. To reverse the direction click the wall again.

  • Doors: (green) doors can either block or allow vision depending on if they are open. The door tool does not replace the entire wall unless the wall is very short. Instead it places a 5ft door. The ends of the door can be moved if the size isn’t correct. To change the default state of a door just click the door again.
