Monster & Character Tokens

Monsters and characters can both have one or more tokens assigned. The default token automatically shows on the Virtual Tabletop map when the monster or character is added to the map.

Assigning Tokens

To assign the first default token for a monster or character, there are three options available:

• Upload Token: this will allow you to upload an image from your computer or phone. Note: see below on creating tokens

• Search Web For Token: this will allow you to search the web for an image. Note: see below on creating tokens

• Pick Token: this will allow you to select from existing tokens.

After the first token is assigned you will be able to assign other tokens or artwork. Just click the token. Note: for monsters to edit the tokens you need to be in edit mode for the monster.

Clicking on the + will show the same options for selecting or creating other tokens for the monster or character. With multiple tokens you can click a token to change the default token, remove the token from the monster from the list or click View to see a larger version of the token.

Creating Tokens

When uploading or searching the web for an image to create a token you will have the option to add a border or background to the image.

Create Token Dialog

This dialog allows you to create a token with a custom border and background.

If your image already has a border or if you don’t want to add a border then uncheck “Add Border”.

You can zoom or move the image around inside of the border to get the best fit.

Note: you will only see the selected background if you have an image with a transparent background.

When you create a token from a monster or character sheet a new artwork will be created and that artwork will be set for your monster or character. That token can be reused by selecting Pick Token in the future. Hint: monster and character tokens are listed as different types of art but can be used for either, just change the filter to select from another type.

Tokens and Maps

Tokens shown on a map follow the standard rules for sizing. The token will always display with a square, typically shows as a circular token, and will be sized according to the monster or character size:

• Tiny: 2½ by 2½ ft. (Shown slightly larger for visibility)

• Small: 5 by 5 ft. (Shown slightly smaller for differentiation)

• Medium: 5 by 5 ft.

• Large: 10 by 10 ft.

• Huge: 15 by 15 ft.

• Gargantuan: 20 by 20 ft.

To change the size of the token on the map change the size of the monster or character.
